Three-space Property for Asymptotically Uniformly Smooth Renormings
We prove that if Y is a closed subspace of a Banach space X such that Y and X/Y admit an equivalent asymptotically uniformly smooth norm, then X also admits an equivalent asymptotically uniformly smooth norm. The proof is based on the use of the Szlenk index and yields a few other applications to renorming theory.
متن کاملSmooth Representations of Totally Disconnected Groups
In particular, the fact that ideas regarding Jacquet modules and the double coset method (regarding intertwining operators) can be developed in this generality is useful in applications. Since we are interested in such things as Jacquet modules, we more generally consider the notions of isotype and co-isotype. Spherical representations and admissibility, at the end, may seem mysterious at this ...
متن کاملStrong Proximinality and Renormings
We characterize finite-dimensional normed linear spaces as strongly proximinal subspaces in all their superspaces. A connection between upper Hausdorff semi-continuity of metric projection and finite dimensionality of subspace is given.
متن کاملDual renormings of Banach spaces
We prove that a Banach space admitting an equivalent WUR norm is an Asplund space. Some related dual renormings are also presented. It is a well-known result that a Banach space whose dual norm is Fréchet differentiable is reflexive. Also if the the third dual norm is Gâteaux differentiable the space is reflexive. For these results see e.g. [2], p.33. Similarly, by the result of [9], if the sec...

Let X be a separable superreflexive Banach space with a Schauder basis. We prove the existence of an equivalent uniformly smooth (resp. uniformly rotund) renorming under which the given basis is monotone. Mathematics Subject Classification (2000). 46B03.
